Ooh, neat! Tourneur and RKO tackle WWII-era America's obsessions with sex and exotic "foreignness" in a way that ends up showing, um, real teeth. More vibe-y and atmospheric than scary per se, except for this one set piece where a woman swimming in a darkly lit public pool is menaced by echoing growls and yowls. Purrrfect acoustics.
