It's hard not to see these remakes as cash grabs, so I did not expect to like this one as much as I did. Halle Bailey's voice is unreal. I can never confidently do "Part of Your World" at karaoke again. I'll always hate the way the CGI animals look in these movies, but that makes Daveed Diggs' performance as Sebastian all the more impressive. He did a lot with nothing. Melissa McCarthy was such a safe choice for Ursula, but she absolutely nailed it, and the character design was stunning. There is one new song that the Internet is going to hate so much, but my theatre cheered for it (iykyk). Ultimately, I'd rather watch the cartoon, but as a Disney Renaissance kid, it's refreshing to not leave one of these remakes completely offended.
