***************

This is Kenneth Branagh's third installment in his Hercule Poirot franchise of films, all based on Agatha Christie's famous detective.

I'm assuming he's going to make these until somebody has to solve his own death.

In this one, Poirot has slipped into semi-retirement and has become a recluse living the simple life in Venice. He avoids plaintiffs trying to hire him to solve their personal mystery cases, even going so far as to employ a bodyguard who keeps everyone at bay by throwing them into the canals or giving them a good clotheslining.

Enter famed mystery author and "former" friend Tina Fey who invites Poirot to a children's benefit with a seance to follow... as the hostess' daughter has been killed and she wants answers!

Fey is kind of the Agatha Christie stand-in and serves as Poirot's main push to "work" this case.

Then the mandatory diverse group of guests arrive - all complete with unique backstories... and motives - along with a medium played wonderfully by Michelle Yeoh.

Things get spooky.
Murders happen.

You know... the usual.

What makes this installment in the franchise work so well is the many jump scares and the use of some amazing camera lens that give the entire movie an other-worldly feel to it. Everything seems off balance and out of sorts. Works extremely well.

So that along with Branagh's great acting really puts this movie over-the-top. Great stuff!!! (Fey's poor acting almost tanks the film at times, but not quite. Thankfully.)

Well worth checking out!
