I liked this! I agree that John Barrymore does a great job. I really like some of the discussions between the characters, specifically Jekyll and Carew at the beginning of the film, talking about temptation and how it’s important to develop both selves, not just the self that gives to others. I will say that I wanted the movie’s exploration of morality to be a little more complex? Although to be honest, I was also really tired by the end of this and I should probably re-watch it to have a fuller opinion on that. I think Jekyll’s argument that splitting all the bad parts of a person into another body prevents the soul from incurring sin doesn’t make any sense because isn’t the bad part also still part of your soul? Also, I don’t think that going to bars is evil? Anyway, I wanna re-watch this with an eye towards the movie’s exploration of temptation, etc. I really liked the soundtrack that my version had on Tubi. I continue to be enamored with the way 1920s films look, and even the kinda jerky quality of them.
