Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead
★★★½

"Never, never EVER, grab another man's balls in a fistfight. It shows low character."

Rough and ready but entirely competent genre film-making from a couple of Aussie blokes who decided they could do their own version of the zombie apocalypse. Obviously, because this is a throwback to the finest Ozploitation tradition, the Roache-Turner brothers found a way to incorporate muscle cars and V8 engine into the mix. It never makes any sense, but it's there.

This is a choose-your-own-adventure kind of deal. If you want to pick apart the seams of homemade film-making, the imperfections are all there for you to pick at. But if you decide to go with it, this movie will give you a rollicking good zombie horror time. Despite its own strange tweaks of the usual formula, Wyrmwood isn't actually doing anything that a hundred other zombie movies have done before, but it plays the game pretty damn well if you decide you're up for something in this well-worn genre territory.
