This is a list of all the films featured in the entries for the series, "Observations on Film Art" on the Criterion Channel. The short supplemental features themselves are not listed on Letterboxd, so I will just put the movie that is featured for each subject. I couldn't find a list of these anywhere, so I thought others might appreciate having the information in one list like this as a handy reference point. Each of the videos is a short introduction to a specific theme found in the film. The videos range from 6-16 minutes long, and they are introduced by one of the following three film professors: Jeff Smith, David Bordwell, or Kristin Thompson (the authors of the book "Film Art: An Introduction").
In the Notes section I will include the title of the episode, which usually tells what the video focuses on (sound, lighting, editing, etc.). I will also note who gives the talk for each specific episode. If they add more to the channel that I haven't included on the list, feel free to let me know in the comments. Since Episode 3 talks about multiple films, I went ahead and left this list unranked so that the episodes are not shown by the wrong number. They are in order, though, so if you count by the episode title in the Notes (and skip the duplicate for Episode 3) you should be able to easily tell which episode talks about that specific film.
I have personally seen 40 of the 51 movies as of the most recent update (and have liked all but a couple of those), though I have only probably watched a handful of the accompanying informational videos. I will probably sit down and watch them all at some point, but I haven't yet decided if I want to watch them at the same time as the film or not. They do go well as something to watch just before watching the movie, but they are certainly easy to appreciate even without watching the full film right before or after. Of the handful of these shorts I have watched, I have found them all to be very interesting and full of things that I might not have otherwise thought of while watching the films themselves.
