Venom: The Last Dance

"Eddie... my home has found us."

The first two films in this trilogy were marginal thumbs-ups, but it would seem that the writing has devolved to the point that I finally got a little fed up with it. The writing in all three Venom movies have been a weakness for the films, but this is the one where it was just so noticeable how little talent these filmmakers have for organically telling a story. "Hey, it's a cold front, not the apocalypse!"

This movie is probably more or less what you might expect from a low-budget mockbuster of The Day After Tomorrow. It has its moments. Not many of them, you have to sift through a looooot of babbling to get to them, and those moments don't hit super impressive highs, but it does have them.

"Why is your shirt so tight?"

New favorite PTA film over here (or, at least until I take the time to rewatch There Will Be Blood probably). One Battle After Another really is one of the best movies of the year. This movie came out of nowhere to become a top-tier horror film. Obsession is terrifying for all the right reasons, with Curry Barker taking a familiar concept––a Monkey's Paw wish gone wrong––and running with it. This is a horror film we'll be talking about for a long time.

The cinematography is gorgeously dark and creepy. My god, those scenes where Nikki's whole face is in darkness but the…
