Hoop-tober the Ninth Chapter Twenty-Seven: A Little Much

"As your older brother, I demand you regurgitate that cream!"

When you hear some of your favorite artists of any medium are supergrouping together to make a thing, of course you want it to be amazing, but it's always hard to predict in advance how well the strengths of talented people will actually mesh. In this case, the results are mostly positive but definitely mixed. I find Jordan Peele's live-action movies a lot more coherent than a lot of people give him credit for, but this script feels like an early, unformed version of something that could have been a lot funnier, tighter, and more poignant. Selick, too, seems to be working with more enthusiasm than discipline.

It's still good! Every set and every puppet looks great, and the needle drops are impeccable. There's a whole lot to like here, just not quite enough to love.
