This film genuinely managed to scare me when I watched it last year. I was very tired and was dozing off but was woken up my a musical queue and opened my eyes to see Mr Shreck towering over me on his boat and I almost jumped out of my pants.

This film is iconic and many of the images are forever part of our culture. The shadow play and inventive camera work is impressive. Like many good silent films it is excellent in framing the shot. It's like looking at a painting where leaves are surrounding the image and guide our eyes to what is happening in the center of the screen.

The first half is more interesting than the latter though. But it finishes very strong. This is a film that I have own on physical formats since the VHS days and I will always come back to it.
