SXSW 2023 | Film Screening #5
Nothing will prepare you for how batshit insane this movie is. Even the brief summarization of it being the queer lovechild of Fight Club and Not Another Teen Movie won't do it any justice. It's going to be one of those films you will have to see more than once due to the numerous amount of perfectly timed jokes and sight gags it constantly throws at you a mile a minute. Trust me, you'll be too busy laughing at the first several to even bother keeping up.
The screenwriting team behind Shiva Baby have crafted something that defies expectation at every turn. We all know how incredibly talented Rachel Sennott has become over the years, but when you pair her up with the likes with another star-in-the-making like Ayo Edebiri, it's pure comedy bliss. If none of these talented women weren't on your radar before, they most certainly will be after the release of this movie.
Bottoms belongs in its own separate category. It's one of the most absurd, surreal, and relentless high school sex comedies I've ever seen and definitely one of the biggest highlights I've encountered throughout the fest. If you think you know what you're getting into, you have no idea!
