Arachnoquake (in contention for greatest title of all time) is exactly what you’d expect from a Syfy channel movie. Ridiculous plot, mediocre acting, and digital effects that are struggling to keep up. The plot involves albino spiders that emerge in New Orleans after a series of random earthquakes. I thought this was surprisingly fun and the perfect amount of cheese without overstaying its welcome. You also get to see Edward Furlong play a high school softball coach and drive a school bus. But it’s Bug Hall, Alfalfa from The Little Rascals, who gets to shine and be the action hero, spider-slayer.
An earthquake in New Orleans opens up a series of giant cracks around the city. A family discovers there is a greater danger at hand: a species of giant fire-breathing spiders has evolved deep underground, and the earthquake activity has awoken them from hibernation and allowed them to cause mayhem on the surface. This is comical. The spiders are white with a dark pink line on their bodies. It's funny how people are trying to kill them. Two guys took a can of hair spray to a lighter to create a flamethrower to kill a bunch of spiders. This movie ranks up there with the attack of the killer tomatoes. Only with better CGI being used on the spiders. Tracy Gold still looks good. Edward Furlong does not. This is not a horror movie. more like a comedy/drama.
Horror Scavenger Hunt August 2018 - Day 6: There is nothing worse than being attacked by insects on a hot summer night. Today we are watching a horror movie that features insects!
Yeah, yeah, spiders aren't insects, whatever. This was directed by the same guy that brought us the greatest film ever made: Ghost Shark, so I had pretty high expectations, and while this definitely isn't my new favorite movie, it was super fun. Syfy original monster movies are literally the reason I keep breathing.
I don't like the idea of Edward Furlong playing dads now though, that's weirding me out.
This type of C-movie monster flick has been done better before, but it’s hard to have all that much hate for a movie this aware of itself, reveling in offbeat humor that helps make the underwhelming effects and average to below-average acting bearable. It’s also got Edward Furlong in it, and he seems to be having fun so that’s a plus.
A host of veteran character actors populate the cast: Gralen Bryant Banks (Treme, American Made, Green Book, Queen & Slim, The Banker), Grant James (Dragon Ball Z, Tombstone, Fullmetal Alchemist, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Lucky Johnson (Treme, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Kidnap, Queen & Slim), Earl Maddox (Monster’s Ball, The…
watched whole movie on youtube for free with a polish guy voicing all the characters. I felt like he was there with me holding my hand telling me everythings going to be ok, he said look at the moon a cow jumps over tonight. A cat starts playing a fiddle🐶? Overall im a dish and a spoon short <3
Are you a fan of bad CG, worse writing, Edward Furlong in a moronic supporting role, and an utterly absurd understanding of multiple scientific fields that is rivaled only by an understanding of New Orleans geography that is awful even by the standards of other movies set in New Orleans? Then this movie is for you. Brilliant.
Also, the first person killed is played by my late friend Earl Maddox. I didn't realize he was in it until he showed up on screen. The dude was in a LOT of stuff. Check it out: www.imdb.com/name/nm1767280/
5/5 Stars
Enjoyably daft creature-feature with giant, fire-breathing spiders invading New Orleans. Not bad for a little light viewing, some laughs to be had. Competent direction by Griff Furst (Mask Maker).
After an earthquake in Louisiana, spiders of various sizes come out of the ground to the surface. The smallest is the size of a tarantula, but there's a big one that is the size of a car. Tourists in New Orleans are attacked by the spiders.
This movie made for the SyFy channel is slightly superior to its peers. It has its share of violence and a story that held my attention. The spiders are obviously not very well made, but they are still better than other monsters made for the channel.
Note that in this picture the spiders run on water and fart fireballs! 😱😂
It’s not good but I’m the audience for this kind of crap so that’s on me. “That’s one big mother bugger.”
