I Saw the TV Glow
★★½ Watched

I feel it was a victim of the hype — I do get what they were trying to go with and I fw the idea of seeing your true self through a tv show and perhaps that is why characters such as the dad or even the family that “Owen” says he has are…non entities. But I think it could have been done better.

The ending is very realistic and I really liked the final minutes of the movie but idk. Maddy/Tara you are a queen

I don’t think it lived through the hype (not the type movie I usually watch but Renate was there so) but I like the concept of it and the ideas behind it. The main leads were really good and though I felt it was a little weak at first it recovered especially on the third act of the film. I actually think it’s a good commentary on certain aspects of trauma and how no matter what you are stuck in these backrooms to some extent.

A really nice film to get out of the watching slump. Even made myself drive to watch it.

I really liked the dynamic between the dad and the sisters — and honestly I was siding with Nora through most of it bc man…he could be a handful lmao. Though it is interesting how the story is handled, you could say that yes, it is about Nora but also about the father (as he was absent he probably didn’t know much…

Really wonderful film with real, tridimensional characters that might have faults but their heart perseveres. Nobody likes to talk about homelessness and in Japan even less, but these underdogs did their best despite how society treated them through most of the film.  A really good Christmas watch.
