One of the best surprises I have had this year, Theater of Blood takes its premise on with delicious ghusto and ghoulish glee. Director Douglas Hickox and Vincent Price go ALL THE WAY, these kills are on par with any 80s slasher movie💥🗡🩸

Who knew that so much of Shakespeare's plays were actually a perfect blueprint for straight up horror?!💀

And The horror is taken seriously here, while the comedy grows organically from setting the grisly murders against a backdrop of "polite" British bourgeois in the 70s. Oh the dialogue! 🤣

Enter the talented and gorgeous Diana Rigg who grounds this movie and is perhaps the heart ❤️ of it as well. She did make me ask questions about Price's Lionheart. Is he a villain? Is he an antihero? Or a misplaced product of the theatre that created him? 🎭
