Watched at Sundance 2022
Watching Master is such a mirror of reality for me: the micro-aggressions, subtle racism, being constantly invalidated by white people regardless of being over-qualified even
Privilege and a complete lack of sympathy shoved in your face followed by the comments “Just work harder”
The hope and then hopelessness Regina Hall's character feels in this film is something a lot of us BIPOC struggle with. You work so hard, you try to get so far, and in the end white supremacy only needs one action or word to smash it all down.
Mind you, it's not the people who are openly racists. No, it's those who pretend through their performative activism, and their performative wokeness. Those are the ones that eventually tie the noose.
Heartbreaking but very real film.
