Sometimes you can tell exactly where a film is going...
...this is NOT one of those films.
It's got a unique opening structure that caught me off-guard and took me a hot second to catch up to. I liked playing catch-up though and really enjoyed the way they dealt out the various pieces that make up the plot of this film noir.
Burt Lancaster is our protagonist who is a "fool for love" with femme fatale Yvonne De Carlo (yes, it is indeed Lily Munster from the TV show "The Munsters"). Then you have the always-one-step-ahead gangster Dan Duryea who is also involved with De Carlo, making a very volatile love triangle.
Throw in an armored truck heist, a cop (played by Stephen McNally) as a best friend and a bundle of double crosses and you got yourself some inventive storytelling!
Oh... and a couple of cameos that are pretty cool as well - both Raymond Burr and Tony Curtis show up in this one. As a matter of fact, this was Curtis' first film role ever: an uncredited part as a guy dancing with a lady where we just briefly see him. Onward and upward for him from here! Nice.
This is a pretty great noir with an awesome ending that truly fits this genre and that I completely loved. Check it out!
