Day 27. A movie featuring the Bermuda Triangle.
So the film to watch for this particular challenge is Bermuda Triangle (1978), which has issues but is the most inventive of the horror films that use this part of the sea as a backdrop. As I’ve already seen it, I opted for the TBS original movie, The Triangle (2001), but the theme does let me touch on a recent annoyance.
At the beginning of the month my Bermuda Triangle review received a snide comment complaining that it included spoilers but that I hadn’t bothered to click the spoilers option that would hide and warn away readers. When I first started out on Letterboxd, I…
This Sci-Fi channel movie is really just like many other Bermuda triangle flicks. Folks in a run down-ship fishing in the area Triangle encounter fog & an abandoned ocean liner. Sound familiar? Probably because ghost ship films are actually really common. Common enough I'm thinking of making a ranked list of ghost ship films. While this one doesn't offer anything at all that's unique to the sub-genre, it's not actively terrible. This film really centers on the murderous actions of a greedy antagonist, and really has very little supernatural events that occur (although the fact that the ghost ship exists, along with a couple fairly obscurely paranormal moments does land it on my Supernatural films list). It has some almost believable…

Movie #5: Something released by York Entertainment
Ah, York... bastion of mediocre action and "urban" fare. I acquired a lot of York Entertainment tapes recently, and I was really psyched about The Triangle. When I was a young boy, I was obsessed with the Bermuda Triangle. The mysteries attributed to it fascinated me, sucked me in as I assumed the location itself would if ever I had the fortune of sailing into it. That was actually a goal for me in 3rd grade, to one day sail into a part of the world renowned for disappearing those who dared enter. I think I had this notion that you would cross a line and…
Three lifelong Bro Mantegnas decide to take a boat trip to the Bermuda Triangle!
Bro #1 is Luke Perry. Bro #2 is a handsome wingman. Bro #3 (aka The Bucket Hat Bro) takes an obnoxious selfie during a clandestine exorcism / voodoo ceremony.
Contains the following great line (spoken to the talented Olivia d'Abo): "If you would've told me two days ago that I would be dancing with a beautiful woman in the ballroom of an old, abandoned ship I would've said that you are crazy."
Summary: solidly entertaining, not terribly spooky (this works in its favor), and of course predictable TV-movie attempt to remake THE SHINING on a big ol' haunted boat (gotta siphon off that TITANIC cheese). A few great scenes, actors who appear willing to unironically commit to the carnival of it all, but occasional groan-inducing overacting: the sort of movie perfect for a late Sunday afternoon.
Somebody threw a bunch of scenes and concepts and ideas from other, better films, into this muddy pot, and didn't wait for it to simmer enough to make sense.
That's a sloppy analogy. This is a sloppy movie.
In my ongoing quest to see all the haunted ship movies, tonight I crossed this lovely train wreck of my list. One of my good friends, synced up to watch it together and it was the type of nonsense that we needed after this week.
If you wanted a TV movie by the numbers ghost ship flick, look no further than this TBS original. A little bit Ghost Ship, a little bit Death Ship, and some how a very dose of The Shining.
It's best watched with friends and a healthy dose of snark.
Not an amazing movie, obviously, but something that I watched as a kid on TV and it stuck with me, very nostalgic
I love the compass going nuts, I love the pit of bones, I love the 'they've been missing for years' good stuff
I'm embarrassed to say that I decided to watch a shitty movie from a 3 movie pack that I had since I was in second grade from a mexican store instead of washing the dishes. You read that right did you. The production design in this was horrible that it makes Universal soldier II Brother In Arms look professional. The acting was shit as well but it at least was a whole lot better than Universal Soldier II Brother in Arms
The two main leads are OK (particularly Perry) but this lacks much ambition - probably hampered by its TV Movie budget. The ending isn't bad but I would have preferred a more sustained approach like in Ghost Ship or (obviously) Triangle.
N.B: This is NOT the Singer/Devlin mini- series that the poster on here suggests.
