yet another stalker romance but i'm inclined to give this the benefit of the doubt since rajnigandha & swami are such beautiful woman-centric movies about the oppression and complications of loving men, and amol palekar has a lovely way of seeming sort of baffled and innocent rather than whiny, aggressive, or entitled - but it's still there, even if the moral of the story is to simply be a slightly more outgoing version of yourself, this does assume that the girl has liked you from the moment she noticed you creeping on her at the bus stop. otherwise a delight, especially once ashok kumar shows up in his wild fashions to be the wingman-conman (and that cameo!!!!), he doubles the energy and the movie gets funnier in general after that. lighthearted ending, lovely music, amazing clothes, cute daydreaming sequences, and always fun to see these older small urban dramas play out in a version of a city that is long gone.

Story about Arun a introverted guy whos not even able to make eye contact with Prabha the girl he sees everyday on bus to the way office. the innocence & the subtleness of a young love, the awkwardness & eye contact, the daydreaming & fantasizing of just seating next to her or having a conversation or just holding her hand especially for a shy & low confidence man (relatable) is beautifully portrayed in a backdrop of bombay of 70s . this film isn't about big stars drama hero aur villian, it's just about a common shy guy who couldn't confess his love for a girl he saw at the bus stand & afraid he's gonna loose her but through self improvement & help he guides himself to be more assertive & finally confesses that chhoti si baat.
the running gag of amol palekar being common man & amitabh bachhan being the angry man of the 70s & amit ji making goofy cameos will always be funny.
also people listening to radio commentary & discussing cricket will also be a amol palekar thing.

I wish I could go back in time when Mumbai was Bombay, walk the same streets of Fort and Churchgate in the 70s-80s (still full of people mind you, but never overcrowded, everyone always in rush back then too, but not like their life depended on it), and feel the pulse of this incredible city.
