Rewatched 17 Oct 2021

I rewatched this Tobe Hooper film because of TCM made me do it. It’s another of Mario Cantone’s Classic Horror movies and this one scared me a lot when I first saw it in the 80s.

My sister’s and I got to watch a lot of scary stuff when were young. This and Jaws scared me the most! Also there’s Cujo and Pet Cemetery which I haven’t seen completely and don’t plan to ever watch (both Stephen King movies). Mario Cantone mentioned that there’s a sort of tribute to Stephen King in the movie Poltergeist with that clown! 🤡  Seriously if there was ever a clown like that in my house it’s going straight into the trash. It still scares me. Along with the scene with the hallway 😱

There’s so many parts in this that’s my favorite (like Zelda Rubinstein 🖤 or all those celestial spirits 👻 floating down the spiral staircase or that long throat in the closet with the tongue coming out)! But then there’s also some real silliness or scenes that are completely unbelievable or confusing - like how the hell did the mom make it outside to that pool?!? Especially after getting zapped by “The Beast” 🖤 whenever she tried to open a door. So how did she suddenly end up outside?!?!

But in all this just brings so much 80s nostalgia for me 🖤🖤

Spooktober movie #13
