Hansel never collected even a scrap of bark the whole movie and thinks he’s basically a logging messiah. Kids these days.

I can’t imagine adding much to the conversation here. People seem to be pretty mixed on this one. Usually complaining about similar things. Movie is slow and meandering. Not a lot goes on the bolster up drama. Feels like a roller coaster ride where all you do is go straight. Feels like the movie is bringing us to a tragic and violent conclusion. Instead it goes out with a whimper. Even with all the intensely realist and pessimistic tones and themes. Being based off the classic old fairytale I was hoping for a further departure from the old fairy tale. Instead when you break it down it’s the same old story just with a different coat of paint. This isn’t that big of a deal because the film looks very stunning at times. However it reeks of padding and tossing in random things to make the movie feel slightly different from the source material.
Watch it and maybe you’ll find some stuff to appreciate. I did not sadly. Oz Perkins can make interesting horror like the Black Coat’s Daughter, but also makes extremely slow and ultimately unimpactful horror like I’m The Pretty Thing In The Wall. Seems like he’s trying to find that sweet spot. I wish him the best.
