Mystery of the Wax Museum

“I tell you the whole place is a morgue, do you hear? The morgue! The Morgue!”

My first Wax Museum movie and I loved it! I watched the restored version on the TCM channel. The technicolor looks amazing in this. I loved the colors and stage settings.

The characters in this are ok, some are typical trope types while others I loved, like Igor (Lionel Atwill) and Jim (Frank McHugh). And “Scream Queen” Fay Wray was pretty good in this. Her role is minor until sculptor Igor imagines her as his Marie Antoinette, from there she was really good I thought. And I know Frank McHugh’s part as Jim - the newspaper edition was a typical trope type, but Frank still brought in his own style, including that laugh I love.

The ending of this was good. I don’t try to think about who the killer is because I’m more engrossed in the story (my nephew likes the mystery and was curious with what I was watching until I said I wasn’t sure there was a killer). Really though I just loved the lab for the wax museum, the style and vibes were great.

“Joe Worth: I don't hope to impress you, but I've got to tell you we haven't a farthing.
Ivan Igor: That is unfortunate.”
