”Eat shit and live, Bill.”
Sometimes when horror films get way too out there they lose a bit of steam to me so I always find myself going back to the sub-genre of slashers and always end up enjoying myself no matter what the end result of the film actually is. I just find it to be some of the most entertaining of the horror genre and with Sleepaway Camp thats no different; a total campfest (figuratively and literally) of classic 80’s horror fun with hilarious camp counselors and kills. Then *that* particular scene hits and I’m shaken to my core in shock and awe.
While I won’t go into spoilers for the film because I hope everyone can sit down and come to the same shock that I did by time the credits rolled, that scene made the entire film for me. Up till that point I was having a blast with its wackiness and just how fun it all was with the kills and the whole whodunnit really being unclear, at least to me. I mean a beehive kill is just crazy and serious enough to work for me. Probably would’ve been one of my favorite of the slasher boom in that time period but I was speaking to soon and got the shock of a lifetime and instantly my liking for the film jumped. What was originally a good slasher film turned into a great horror film in just one scene; if that doesn’t make you want to watch Sleepaway Camp I don’t know what will.
