Dead & Buried

A small coastal town takes up amateur filmmaking and other unsavory hobbies.

Lots of nicely gory effects and a very twisty plot that managed to surprise me once or twice. I would have liked it more if they'd laid off the fog machine just a bit and maybe lightened up the picture a little - I came away with a headache from trying to see through the mist. Unevenly paced and repetitive with some shaky ADR work.

The scene with the lost family had a couple nice touches - the shadows looming outside the house in particular - but as a whole it was painfully shrill idiocy and was pretty much the moment the film lost me.

I wanted to really like this. I adored director Gary Sherman's Death Line. But in the end this had nice makeup effects, interesting idea, and mediocre execution. If the muddy print was ever cleaned up I'd like to give it another chance.
