One of the best films of the 21st century, City of God (Cidade de Deus) paints a disturbing portrait of life in the slums of Rio de Janeiro and covers the birth & flourishing world of gangsters, gang wars & drug deals spanning over 3 decades from 1960s to 1980s, all meticulously captured through the eyes of a young photographer who continuously finds himself in the middle of this milieu despite never wanting any part of it.

GIVE ME A FLAW IN THIS FILM! And not that you would’ve liked it to be longer, because that’s all I’ve got.

This might just be one of the most impactful pieces of cinema I have ever seen. The amount of different emotions I have felt in a 2-hour period is unbelievable; the majority of films with this approach tend to leave me overwhelmed. This was definitely not one of those films. The stylistic camera work is complete genius. Every character is unforgettable. The pacing is phenomenal, and all three acts are just as good as each other.
