This is my new Christmas movie. It's perfect. Not joking.
Lady Vengeance was like Antonioni was chilling with Aeschylus and they decided to make a L'Avventura / Eumenides hybrid and Kurosawa was shouting advice across the bar. Well, that's exaggerating but it's close.
Honestly, this surprised me. I chose the version that fades to gray. If you can find that version, it is stunning. I will watch full color next.
Best in the series for me. (Please watch this one last). I know this is the opposite of normal but it is how I feel about it so that is that. There was some closure and catharsis and it was very humane in its brutality. There was nothing exploitative. There are scenes that could have gone much further (you will know when you see it) and he focuses on the opposite of what I expected. And I realized that was the point.
The plot in translation is pretty hard to follow, so if you speak English I recommend carefully checking parts of the wikipedia summary if you are confused. It clears up the issues.
