This movie charmed me and made me physically uncomfortable within the first two minutes. It is a more brutal experience of childhood than what I had, but it captures a lot of the spirit of the darker sides of growing up and how one learns to manage those dangers.
What makes this film is that all supernatural elements are entirely invisible. There is no flashiness and no force. There is spooky action at a distance, which is kinda the core of magic. And in childhood, everything can be magical and there is also hidden danger that one may not be prepared to face.
The Innocents captures this. Very little else I've seen is this true to life and consequently this terrifying.
Fully endorsed; you must watch it. Well, unless you need, like, action sequences. Then you shouldn't.
