ADDITIONAL NOTE: This list has grown way beyond what I expected. I also understand that some are dissatisfied by the films in this list. I sympathise. This was not the list I set out to make. Sátántangó and Salò are not the same as Fight Club. But every single one of these films was suggested by someone. To someone, each of these films matched the title of this list. So this isn't my personal project any more, this is a community list. It should also be said that due to this, please do not expect this list to be nuanced. The title is a generalisation and different degrees of hopelessness are reflected across these films.
FURTHER NOTE: As this list became unwieldy and difficult to maintain, I have decided to cap it at 1000 films for now. For every suggestion I add, I now remove a film. So it is a rotating list of depressing movies. Feel free to politely tell me which films you think don't belong here.
