Kind of terrible if you're not already a Yakuza fan, an absolute joy if you are. The cheapness of the whole thing, including just using footage from the games for a lot of background and establishing shots, only adds to the charm.

More Seeing the criticisms of this film for not being a faithful adaptation actually make me somewhat glad I've never read the book. I'm actually able to appreciate the film for the stylistic marvel that it is. Terrible people in love is a story that I'm strangely fascinated by, and this is absolutely a fascinating version.

More Why this movie is so unknown outside of Poland, I'll never know. Beside being a fun, often hilarious film, it's a wonderful satire and examination of not only a brainwashed, biased, or misinformed society (particularly Communists, but it could apply to a lot of groups), but also of some of the feelings men of the time were feeling with the rise of feminism. You can make arguments for it being sexist from both angles, and that's fine, but it's still one of the most entertaining films I've seen.
