Masterpiece or not, Sergei Eisenstein’s world-shattering Battleship Potemkin is a propaganda movie and it’s in the nature of those kind of works to scream their messages, but what separates this 1925 groundbreaking piece of cinema from so many other offensive and juvenile extremist and manipulative “artistic” creations is that Sergei Eisenstein doesn't sacrifice the quality of the film, it may be full of obvious left-wing points but it is also filled with striking formal innovations and features some incredibly intense scenes of revolution, fight and social uprising. The story is packed with anger, fury, passion and social idealism and what makes Battleship Potemkin such a wonderful and surrealistically powerful…

Along with several cinematographic masterpieces we all know, there is one as important for cinema as for the history of Soviet propaganda: Battleship Potemkin, a film that exceeds the limits of mere entertainment to come out as a resolute investigation into the human condition in the face of the crucible of the revolution. Extremely well edited and full of celebrated shots, Sergei Eisenstein combines art with politics while stunningly accomplishing both criteria exceptionally. This Soviet uprising holds a biased and personal narrative, but it is ultimately sensational in grasping your heed to experience the revolution.
Battleship Potemkin was filmed as a part of something greater than itself, and from a cinematic perspective, it truly succeeds. It’s fierce, it’s heightened; it’s undeniably inspirational.
