Everybody betting on how they can flatline for like two or three minutes when I'm over here flatlining for all 115 of this!
Watched this because at the end of the day I'm the kind of guy who should have seen Flatliners. Sometimes you'll see a guy and be like "oh yeah, countdown until he becomes a rockabilly guy." My much smaller scale version of that is that I need to have seen Flatliners to make complete sense. It's weird that I hadn't seen it.
Started pretty strong for me. Looks great and it's got a really fun premise played exactly as sincerely and "un-fun" as I wanted with a great ensemble cast but when the hauntings started and it was just boring little kid stuff it really lost steam. Steam... funny I should use that word. I think Joel Schumacher probably had…
Very silly in parts and it lacks a certain oomph but I'm just a sucker for these kinds of stylized movies. Flatliners is a perfect lazy Sunday afternoon watch in my opinion, especially one during the fall season. I will definitely revisit this around Halloween. Another fun watch with Michelle.
Finally, after years of listening and reading reviews on this film, I got to check out another film that illustrated the fact that Joel Schumacher was deeply embittered by the Hollywood system when it came to the Batman movies. I believe that if the opportunity had been presented to do a darker version of Batman, Joel might have never reached the levels of Burton but he might have crossed that fine line between dark and campy.
In regards to this film, it failed to live up to its ambition and the possibilities the premise had to offered. I liked the concept our protagonists bring demons that are not infernal or supernatural, but more personal. This is a great take, almost…
Above everything, Flatliners is worth commending purely on a visual level. Jan De Bont has surely made it to be one of Schumacher's best looking films and even if it is littered with medical inaccuracies and features a strained - but in its own way moving - cop-out ending, at least it is still stunning to stare at.
