Godzilla Minus One

Come on man. My main complaint with most Kaiju movies has always been the poorly written characters stealing the limelight from the self titled monster. Godzilla Minus One gives us plenty of incredibly well executed Godzilla scenes while weaving in their most compelling narrative to date. Prior to Minus One my favorite Godzilla was Shin, and this is a damn close second.

The American movies have always faltered when it comes to the narrative, but give us some pretty great monster scenes, however short they may be. Not an issue with the newest Toho entry.

God the soundtrack hits.

In my seemingly never-ending hunt to watch every Nicolas Cage movie he’s ever starred in, I thought it’d be difficult to find the directors cut of Dying of the Light. Turns out Schrader himself has made it entirely easy to watch his almost ideal vision for the film through Internet Archives.

Wuthering Heights

Fennell lives on the surface, skirting around any sort of subtext with the pure intent of engagement. I’ve read Wuthering Heights twice, once as required reading in highschool and the second time earlier this year in prep for the movie. I’m no Brontë purist, do what you will with your source material. But this screenplay feels like it was proofed by Sam Levinson and Levinson alone. It’s a horny, angsty, teeny-bopper mode that Fennell thrives in.

Horror movie 91/100. A Page of Madness.

I find it pretty funny that we’re going from this incredible piece of history…. to Hubie Halloween in a couple days.

The story behind this movie is actually incredibly interesting. Back in 1926, the building that was holding this film caught fire and burned down after being screen in Tokyo only a handful of times. It didn’t have much box office success, but was critically acclaimed by the large majority. Then 45 years…
