I can’t believe I almost passed this up due to the low average rating.
Easily the most marvelous and faithful adaptation of any source material I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing. It’s like my own images while reading Frankenstein were snatched up and brought to life on-screen, and it was an enchanting experience. I’m still not convinced this is a Hallmark production, the sets are gorgeous, as are many of the landscape shots and overall atmosphere. The Creature is spot-on (though sadly not 8 feet tall), and my new favorite iteration of the iconic character. The makeup effects are exceptional, and the creation scene is the best ever put to film, truly. I understand that many people find the…
why did victor marry his adoptive sister when he was literally in love with henry and henry was in love with him
Of the three adaptations of Shelley’s text I’ve seen that aim for strict accuracy, this is definitely the strongest, but even overlooking the innate formal limitations of the TV movie/miniseries format, there’s still a distance here between what’s on screen and the actual material. The broad strokes of the narrative are all just about right, and the aesthetic is there in spades (an edge it has over the gaudy Branagh film), but the cerebral heart of the story’s been excised, and it falls into just about every pitfall that consumed the prior attempts to directly translate The Modern Prometheus from page to screen. The back half in particular seems entirely devoted to exonerating its titular character from any and all perceivable faults,…
I think Hallmark was really cooking with gas on these personally. But sure let's pivot to cloned white couple Christmas sweater movies that's fine that's cool.
7.0/7.1 out of 10
Meant to be a television mini series we have another Frankenstein adaptation with a nice cast role from my guy Donald Sutherland. (RIP) 2 episodes meshed together to make one nice three long feature. It’s worth a watch, I liked this one, basically right on par with unbound.

Kevin Connor's made-for-TV adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic novel has been my preferred iteration of this story since childhood. I rented this DVD from my local video shop perhaps a dozen times—relishing the gothic atmosphere, period trappings, star-studded cast, and the intense emotional exploration of life beyond death. I read Shelley's novel as a child but it is this film adaptation that cemented the journey of Frankenstein, both doctor and his creation, in my memory.
The faithfulness of this project cannot be understated, Connor and co. strain to capture Shelley's intentions even when it proves cinematically challenging. While certain situations may feel stiff, unwieldy, or ponderous, this diligence should not be mistaken for laziness or pretense. There exists no other…
This is probably the worst Frankenstein made. It was really weird and I just couldn’t get into it. It was very boring I personally wouldn’t rewatching this. I definitely prefer the original Frankenstein.
I get that this is fully a Hallmark miniseries, but why did they have to rom-com-ify Victor and Elizabeth’s relationship? Like yes, incest is a fairly common theme in gothic literature, and was definitely in the book, but translated into television it’s just so…gross.
This was poorly made, but book accurate. Imagined some of the characters differently, but it’s whatever.
This Victor Frankenstein miniseries definitely comes the closest to capturing the emotional spirit of Shelley's novel, being unafraid to embrace the pacing of the novel rather than rushing through the story.
It also really loves to beat you over the head with the central themes of the story in the first act, in a very unsubtle way that I found quite amusing.
This Frankenstein follows the trajectory of the novel to an even more slavish degree than Kenneth Branagh's Frankenstein, and does the story great credit to capturing the novel's overall trajectory and tone.
However the edges were smoothed out and both the creator's scorn and the creature's wrath were rather tempered through a story driven by sensitivity for both…
I don't get the obsession this film has with dead dogs. I don't want to see that.
