I can understand why His Girl Friday is usually labelled, first and foremost, a screwball romantic comedy. There's certainly plenty going on in its last 20 minutes to support that labelling especially.
But on this, my third viewing, I still remain resolutely unconvinced that this is a romantic comedy at all. Sure, Rosalind Russell does end up following Cary Grant out the door for a honeymoon in Albany but it's not because, all of a sudden, she's been bowled over by his charms all over again. There's absolutely no sign at all until the last scene that she has changed her feelings towards him.

There's a scene where Rosalind Russell is on the typewriter and Cary Grant is on the phone and Ralph Belamey is trying to talk to Russell, and all three are talking a mile a minute in perfect synch with each other, and... folks, I don't know if anyone alive today could pull it off for as long and as well.
Cary Grant is so nasty in this. He says someone has a brain like a pancake
This movie combines my four favorite activities: 1) talking too much 2) rapid-fire flirting 3) lightly roasting someone as a form of sexy one-upmanship and 4) getting to the bottom of things. Think I just found a new all-time favorite for me.
