I tried to do this Hooptober thing once before (2 years ago, I believe), but didn't make it. I feel a little bit better about it this year, however I've put together a list that's a bit longer than 31 films, and had hoped to get started watching a few nights ago, to get myself a head start. I believe I've hit all the required criteria, and have tried to keep this list somewhat diverse with a good selection of films I've either never seen before, or haven;t seen in a good long while.
The criteria for Hooptober 5.0 are as follows:
31 Films - 36 Total
2 Tobe Hooper Films - "Mortuary", "Invaders from Mars"
10 'Anniversary' Films (from a year ending in 8) - "Maniac Cop", "Mardi Gras Massacre", "Bad Dreams", "Evil Dead Trap", "Monkey Shines", "Martin", "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein", "The Last Broadcast", "I Spit on Your Grave", "The Children"
6 Countries - USA, Canada, Spain, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Netherlands
6 Decades - 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 2000s, 2010s
6 Films Before 1970 - "Kill, Baby, Kill", "The Hound of the Baskervilles", "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein", "The Old Dark House", "The Phantom of the Opera", "The Birds"
6 Films from the Following: Romero, Cronenberg, Clive Barker, Terence Fischer, Sergio Martino, Bill Lustig (mix-and-match, or all one) - "Maniac Cop" (Lustig), "The Brood" (Cronenberg), "The Fly" (Cronenberg), "Martin" (Romero), "Monkey Shines" (Romero), "Screamers" (Martino)
2 Flying Things that Kill You Films - "The Birds", "The Roost"
1 Silent Film as a Tribute to A Quiet Place - "Phantom of the Opera"
1 Aquatic Menace Film as a Tribute to Meg - "Humanoids from the Deep"
2 Women Directed Films - "The Velvet Vampire", "Humanoids from the Deep", "Pet Sematary"
1 Inanimate Object Comes Alive Film - "The Lift", "Down"
1 Film with Barbara Crampton in it- "Chopping Mall"
That should just about do it. I'm starting with Hitchcock's "The Birds" tonight, and I hope to write reviews for at least most of these films.
