This is my official Hooptober Cinco list, which I have combined with my previously compiled Shocktober 31 For 31 list for an extra challenge. I've named my list after a mashup of my whopping SIX (count 'em! SIX!) picks from the crucial anniversary year of 1988. All but one [EDIT: Three!] of these (Halloween '78) [EDIT: and also Hellraiser II and Texas Chainsaw Massacre!] will be a first time watch.
Here's the breakdown of my picks, along with this year's Hooptober rules:
A) 10 'Anniversary Films' (Release years end in an 8)
1. Halloween (1978)
2. Piranha (1978)

4. The Swarm (1978)
5. Pumpkinhead (1988)

That takes up 26 slots in my list, so I'm rounding it off with five more picks (which I've chosen for reasons stated below) for a grand total of 31! Whew!
1. Halloween (2018) (big sequel/franchise reboot!)
2. Suspiria (2018) (big remake!)
3. Xtro (1982) (recommended by the '80s All Over podcast, really looking forward to it!)
4. Raw Force (1982) (Zombie ninjas, looks like a kooky romp.)
5. Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016) (From the same director as Oculus, one of my favorites from past years.)
EDIT 10/20: Whoops, looks like I slept on Ouija:OoE too long and it disappeared from HBO streaming (and streaming in general) before I had a chance to watch. I've swapped it for Wild Zero (1999), which I introduced several people to last night. It's a wonderfully cheesy and fun movie, and will make an excellent anniversary pick for anyone already writing up their 2019 Hooptober list.
EDIT 10/28: Guess what? I found Ouija:OoE for dirt cheap on disc at Half Price. I'm going to watch it today! In other news, it looks like the Suspiria remake isn't going into wide release (or at least to my neck of the woods) until after Halloween, so that's a bummer. I might just rewatch the original as preparation instead, but either way I'm still on track to see 31 movies in 31 days.
EDIT 10-30: Hold up, I found a screening of Suspiria (2018) on Halloween night! By tomorrow, I will have watched all 31 films, plus one alternate for a total of 32 movies in October!
