Absolutely essential in just about every regard. The moments focusing on Martin Sheen's breakdown are some of the most human and heartbreaking scenes ever captured on documentary film.

There's something oddly comforting about seeing a bearded, shirtless out of shape guy say "I'm thinking of shooting myself" while in the process of making one of the all-time greatest works of art. Every scene of him actor wrangling is harrowing.

I urge everyone with an interest in film (whether a fan of Apocalypse Now, like myself, or not) to watch this. One of the most profound and fascinating documentaries I’ve ever seen. It’s an enthralling exploration of an artist pursuing his goal while in complete and utter crisis. Additionally, this actually manages to elevate the themes of the film it’s based on. Brilliant!

I think this is better than the movie. No film more perfectly demonstrates masculinity and colonialism as part of the creative process. Every wife should have the opportunity to demonstrate her husband's insanity and eccentricities in this sort of way. I think that this is the best film about a film ever made.
