The World is Ending... Let's Help It!
There is much to dislike in this movie, but one thing that I actually found disturbingly interesting. Scorcher is a crazy disaster movie with a wild plot in which the world ends in three days… or something. Fear not, we can save the planet by setting off a series of nuclear bombs in Los Angeles.
Sounds like a great comedy, but these guys mean business, trust me - they are deadly serious. Now, the interesting part comes as the world is ending and the creeps crawl out from the shadows to dominate the world. Our hero’s daughter is taken by a serial killer who slowly tortures her mentally.
The overall daughter side plot…
Actually didn’t mind this dumb fun disaster film.
A little different in parts, but liked its LA setting with world turning to shit. Even the wacko serial killer sub story with the daughter was cool.
Is it’s corny and the dialogue sub par, but had just enough for this disaster film sucker like myself to enjoy.
Watch on good ole DVD 📀 spin one soon!!!
One of my biggest pet peeves in movies is when characters lose perspective. When you're in a movie where the fate of literally the entire earth rests on your shoulders, would you continue to hurl petty insults at your team members for no particular reason? Would you abandon your mission to save someone who will die anyway if you don't complete said mission? Would you decide having a family reconciliation is more important than the ticking clock right next to you? Scorcher heaps all of these pet peeves on top of too many more for me to bother listing. Its biggest sin, though? Casting Mark Dacascos in the lead and never letting him fight anybody. What a waste.
Not my cup of Tea of Movie.
The US President is advised by his top officals that the tetonic Plates are causing Mass destrushion to the Earth, So the groupe plan to use two Nukes inorder to stop the inpending doom of earth. I tryed to enjoy this Movie but couldnt because it did wow me or entertaine me at all, And not the best acting in this as well from Mark Dacascos, Mark Rolston and John Rhys-Davies. Overall Not my cup of tea of Movie from Start to End.
2 out of 10
No Rewatch in Future.
The Armageddon that dropped out of school to open up its own food truck in rural Iowa.
This movie literally starts with making several jokes about a bunch of Asians dying during a volcanic eruption – and the audience is supposed to like the hero for not only making the jokes, but for punching out an empathetic woman, who wants to save them.
This is not a good movie. At all.
The exposition dialogue is out of this world and the acting is both stiff and alien. It is so full of clichés that the film is more foreseeable than the coming financial crisis.
It is also one of those movies where, apparently, the world’s leading scientist is a 29-year-old…
this could have been at least 40% more enjoyable of a disaster film without the virulent misogyny :( i really enjoy bad scripts and worse acting, but i cant make it past that level of stupid shit. gotta say the Motivation Daughter being kidnapped by a religious serial killer(??) in the middle of the story was a unique thing to add
I remember watching the Television serial 24 and thinking, "Holy hell, there are a lot of B-Side-stories..." or filler. A lot of it can help move the plot but the majority of the time it means nothing.
This entire film is loaded with so many side stories that I thought to myself, how is this in a Movie.
Awful.
It gets one star for Mark Dacoscos doing the only legitimate thing a normal person would do if someone is about to kill his daughter: Kill Them. In other movies, they would try to reason with the would be killer.
This was near painful to watch. Just watch another disastermovie.
It does have John Rhys-Davies, and its fun to think that this was the project that got filmed after lotr?
A disaster movie as if created by a stencil. You get the same plot as you got used to in all the past years and the only thing that changes is the form of disaster threatening earth. Volcano? No. Ice? No. Meteorites? No. Tectonic plates? Tectonic plates it is! Given the cast of this movie I was expecting a bit more, especially with John Rhys-Davies being in it (and not to forget Rutger Hauer - it feels like ages ago since I last saw him in a movie) and the actors are trying hard to present the script in an acceptable way. Unfortunately the writing is so generic, that Scorcher ends up as just a below average movie in the…
