My contribution to Cinemonster's fifth annual Hoop-Tober extravaganza.
NOTE: The list below is preliminary and subject to change. And yes, I know it's too long, but I'm too tired to cut it any shorter at the moment. Besides, I need options!
Cinemonster's list of rules:
(1) Include at least 10 "anniversary" films (films from years ending in "8," other than 2018). - Afterschool, Beetlejuice, The Bride Wore Black, Death by Hanging, I Stand Alone, Night of the Demons, Night of the Living Dead, A Short Film About Killing, The Silent Partner, and The Vanishing. (This led me to take a somewhat liberal view of "horror," but that's Cinemonster's fault—10 is an awful lot!)

(This led me to take a somewhat liberal view of "horror," but that's Cinemonster's fault—10 is an awful lot!)
(2) Include films from at least six different countries. - Covered. In addition to the United States, we've got Canada, France, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, South Korea, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
(3) Include films from at least six different decades. - Every decade from the 1920s to the 2010s is represented, other than the 1950s.
(4) Include at least six films made before 1970. - The Bride Wore Black, Cat People, Death by Hanging, Night of the Living Dead, The Old Dark House, The Phantom Carriage, Planet of the Vampires, Secret Beyond the Door, Tales of Terror, Twice-Told Tales, The Unfaithful Wife.
(5) Include at least six films from some combination of George Romero, David Cronenberg, Clive Barker, Terence Fisher, Sergio Martino, and Bill Lustig. - This will prove harder. Currently I've got The Fly (Cronenberg), Night of the Living Dead (Romero), and Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key (Martino). So we'll see what I can do on that front.
(6) Include at least two movies with a flying thing that kills people. - Having not seen a number of these, I'm not totally sure if I've satisfied this one. I think Phantasm</> counts, but beyond that, I'm not sure.
(7) Include at least one silent film (as a tribute to A Quiet Place). - The Phantom Carriage
(8) Include at least one "aquatic menace" film (as a tribute to The Meg). - The Witch Who Came from the Sea (it's right there in the title!)
(9) Include at least two films directed by women. - Amer (co-directed by Hélène Cattet), In My Skin (directed by Marina de Van)
(10) Include at least one "inanimate object comes to life" film. - Again, I think Phantasm satisfies this requirement? Also, some of these (Night of the Living Dead, Tales of Terror) involve reanimated corpse, and a corpse is technically inanimate—that's why it has to be reanimated!
(11) Include at least one Barbara Crampton film. - You're Next
(12) Include at least two Tobe Hooper films. - Not currently; I've seen all the Hoopers I own, and I like to use Hoop-Tober to catch up on watched stuff where I'm able. But I'm never opposed to a Texas Chain Saw Massacre rewatch.
(13) Review them all. - Sadly, not gonna happen.
**(14) For those who like to do extra work: Watch Tales from the Hood and Tales from the Hood 2. You'll receive a shout-out in Hoop-Tober 2019.**
My movie-watching (and especially movie-reviewing) time has dwindled dramatically over the years (having two small kids will do that to you). But we'll see what I can fit in. Cheers for Hoop-Tober v.5! (And thanks, yet again, to Cinemonster for putting together such a great idea and for generally being a fantastic human person.)
