Be in to win a private screening of Wes Anderson’s new film by following the clues to collect fourteen special Asteroid City-inspired items hidden around Letterboxd.

Find all the daily clues in our Asteroid City Scavenger Hunt crew list

In a marvelous first for us, we’ve teamed up with Focus Features to create a playful Asteroid City scavenger hunt. You’ll be looking for fourteen items inspired by Wes Anderson’s signature aesthetic, hidden around our website and apps, in the lead up to the theatrical release of his eleventh feature film.

Every day for the next fourteen days, a new item will be hidden on Letterboxd somewhere in the extended Wes Anderson universe of films and their creators. We’ll drop daily clues on our social media, and once you have collected all fourteen items, you’re automatically in the draw to win the grand prize: a private screening of Asteroid City for you and your friends at your nearest cinema.

There’ll also be runner-up prizes of limited-edition Asteroid City merchandise and screening codes; all eligible members go in the draw and winners are chosen at random. Terms and conditions apply—this competition is global, but the grand prize and screening codes are only able to be won by Letterboxd members living in a territory where Asteroid City will screen theatrically in 2023.

Set in a fictional American desert town circa 1955, Asteroid City concerns the itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition), which is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.

The ensemble of students, parents and locals is played by Wes Anderson regulars including Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan and Jeff Goldblum.

“Here are just a few of the key ingredients: cinematographer, editor, composer, stunts — can you see how incredible this debut feature is going to be?”

And here’s what you’re looking for: The Collapsing Star Ribbon of Success.

How to hunt

  • You need to be signed-in as a Letterboxd member to participate, and app users will need the latest version from the App or Play Store
  • A new item is introduced each day from June 1 to 14 (US dates)
  • Follow our social accounts—Twitter, Instagram, TikTok—for daily clues; we’re also posting them on our Scavenger Hunt crew list
  • The clues are only one part of the puzzle; you may be required to deploy our sorting and filtering options, and be prepared to dive deep into the Wes Anderson filmmaking universe of collaborators
  • You can access ‘Your Collection’ on the main screen for Asteroid City, to see which items you’ve collected so far
  • The scavenger hunt is on both app and web: to collect an item, click or tap it (depending on your device) and it will be added to your collection
  • You can collect the items in any order. If you find the tenth item first, for example, you can collect it, then go back and collect the rest
  • Once you collect an item, it will disappear from the place you found it (but remains visible for members who haven’t yet discovered it)
