This was a pretty ok movie. It kept me kinda entertained, but it wasn't scary at all i thought that there was gonna be some vampire action but there wasn't. The acting was not that bad, and the cinematography was nice. The story was pretty good in my opinion i was sucked into it.
Overall this was not that bad of a movie and i would suggest it to people that like historical horror.
it's interesting to see a movie about the real person who inspired bram stoker's dracula. it definitely has that made for tv feel so i wasn't surprised to find out that it is in fact a tv movie - a pretty good one at that. the only thing stopping me from fully liking it is that i went into this expecting something completely different. when i found this on amazon, i didn't know that is was meant to be a historically accurate and just thought "oh cool a vampire movie" when i saw dracula's name. i can only blame myself..

DRACULA: THE DARK PRINCE (2000)
"A warlord must fight a bloody battle in order to regain his kingdom."
I've been on a Dracula binge since watching the Netflix/BBC miniseries, Dracula (2020). I rewatched the timeless classic Universal Dracula (1931) and Francis Ford Coppola's romantic version, Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992), then came upon my VHS copy of Dracula: The Dark Prince. It's funny because I own this film on videotape but have never actually sat down to watch the full thing. Until tonight that is.
Dracula: The Dark Prince (known as Dark Prince: The True Story Of Dracula fundamentally everywhere else or as Dark Prince: Legend Of Dracula) is a made-for-television historical war-horror film. It isn't based on Bram Stoker's famous…
This was made for TV, a fact that I was already very aware of prior to reading confirmation of it. This production value is virtually identical to any of the dramatic interpretations that will be added to televised programming about history.
Gotta say, pretty impressive otherwise.
Reasonably well paced, and pretty faithful to what is generally agreed upon as the story of Vlad the Impaler. Some of the acting is a little uneven, but this isn't bad.
For a TV movie, it’s surprisingly slick and well thought out— filming it on location helped, and it’s more accurate than I would have guessed. Having the guy that played “Dracula” on the Buffy episode “Buffy vs. Dracula” makes me INSANE though.
Dracula Vs Robocop...ya know, cause Peter Weller...
I still have a soft spot for this historical dramatization. It's very digestible and moves at a made-for-TV pace. And who doesn't love a good revenge film?
I also think it's kinda funny when Dracula has tender, piano accompanied scenes with his wife and then next scene he's ordering nobles to be impaled to death. What a complexed guy!
As a Romanian, I appreciate how this movie was filmed on site with many specific details i've heard about as a child like the golden goblet and covering the mirror with a cloth. The filmmakers really took time to portray the story, culture and setting accurately. I've actually been to Sighisoara, Dracula's birthplace. It was really nice to see Vlad Tepes portrayed instead of the blood sucking sex symbol of dracula we see today. The storytelling feels like that of a Shakespearean drama. Jane March does an amazing job as Vlad's wife. Her descent into madness due to the appalling conduct of Vlad, although it felt a bit quick, was beautiful. The credits are filmed to the brim with Romanian names. It is a film I greatly appreciate.
I remember watching this on Halloween in 8th grade when it was shown on the USA network. Having always been a Dracula freak, I thought it'd be fun to know about the man who inspired Bram Stoker. I'm sure I thought everything that happened in the movie happened in Romania 600ish years ago.
The movie itself is entertaining with a mixed bag of good but not great acting and dialogue and production value. While it may not be a true four star ranking for many people, I give it a bump for nostalgia, also considering the last time I saw this was right before a Danzig concert.
