I really did just love this total, unashamed piece of complete garbage. It was made in 1997, which was a great year for me and also a time when insanely stupid horror movies like this one were fairly commonplace. I miss those days. They sure don’t make them like this anymore and, in spite of what most rational people would say, that is not a good thing.
Awful one liners, cheap effects, and ridiculous character decisions are all here but, there’s also a good amount of gore, some really fun moments, and enough “small town horror movie setting” charm to make this worth a yearly watch.
Jack Frost moves more on the DVD cover than he does in the movie.
Essential DTV 90’s horror comedy that feels like a nutso cocktail of Twin Peaks small town vibes and 90’s Full Moon Features... basically the perfect combo for idiots like me, and it’s the killer snowman movie—loaded with goofy humor, even goofier one liners, an antifreeze baptizatism, and glorious/always welcomed feeling that everyone involved in this had their hearts in it, or at least in the right place.
Totally get why people would hate this lol.

I put this on while I was cleaning because I’ve seen it so many times that I don’t need to pay close attention to it.
I still love it just as much as ever. Only the 90’s DTV market could produce something like a psycho killer turning into a bloodthirsty snowman that yells out “I can see your house from here!” as he flies through the air after getting hit by a car. Or “I’m the worlds most pissed off sno-cone” when somebody asked who he is. Or “listen, I got a point I’d like to make” before stabbing someone with an icicle. Or “Gosh, I only axed ya for a smoke!” before creatively offing a guy…

One of the best things that ever happened to me as a kid was when we rented 1998’s Jack Frost and the tape for 1997’s Jack Frost was inside. I was a kid who loved horror and tried to sneak them into our rental piles every chance I got. I had a chill as hell (but burnt out) solo parent who usually didn’t care too much but it was already established that I was NOT allowed to see the killer snowman movie, so my day was made.
When my mom returned it they were apologetic, gave us a free rental and another copy of the “correct” Jack Frost, which I quietly realized in the car was the same incorrect combination…so guess who got to see Jack Frost twice in one week back during Christmas break ‘99!?! **AIR HORN**CONFETTI**XMAS LAZERS**
watching this as a kid thinking it must be the most cheapo bootleg/amateur shit ever recorded now it feels too glossy, mainstream, smarmy & slick to get more than 4 stars from my sov-addled poloniac brain...... time is a fire in which we burn

I’ve only ever heard of one Jack Frost movie and that’s the one with Michael Keaton, so I stumbled across what looked to be a turn your brain off Christmas horror and thought why not. It’s exactly that, a goofy comedy horror that kind of just exists, it’s not good in the slightest but it’s got some hilarious one liners and fits in that category of campy cheap horrors.
The story follows a serial killer who’s on his way to get executed, but a crash with a truck causes Jack Frost to escape. The genetic material from the crash causes his body to fuse with the snow…
It's like that toy you really wanted for Christmas. You know the one. The toy you played with once, maybe a few times over the years, even though it never quite lived up to the promise of its packaging (and was absolutely horribly-directed to boot). As with so many crappy toys of its ilk, the last act features plenty of memorable shenanigans. I met Shannon Elizabeth a few years ago and I really should've asked her about that scene.
I watched Tarkovsky’s Stalker earlier today and I’m unsure which film has left me more speechless.
I really thought I was a huge movie nerd but I was completely unaware until now that cinema was saved back in 1997.
