here's the thing with this movie.. it's literally not bad. it's actually pretty good. and i think having such low ratings is really indicative of a double standard within the action genre. this movie is completely comparable to john wick or the like, and so i really do think the fact that ava is helmed by a heroine instead of a hero is why it's getting such flack. i completely understand calling this movie hollow or something to that effect, at times it was. but john wick's plot is just as devoid of substance, so really this movie's only "downfall" (just like atomic blonde, which is also a great spy movie) is that the assassin is a female. and i think that's really shitty because women deserve to be spotlighted in espionage films just as men are.
