My Giallo List
*********************************************

This is another underseen giallo that’s been on my personal list for a while.  Finally gave up on tracking down a reasonably priced copy of the DVD anywhere and found it available on Amazon to stream (in an English dub in poor quality, but only $1.99).

While it features genre stalwart George Hilton as yet another smarmy, scheming womanizer, that’s where the Giallo conventions pretty much end.  We know who the killer is from the first scene and he’s absolutely riveting as played by Antoine Saint-John.

This is a sleazy, nasty and thrilling affair.  The film starts with a plan for the killer to — kill again — this time for hire.  That sequence is brilliant in its own right - particularly the all yellow (giallo!) apartment decor.   Once the main murder takes place,  the film shifts to a chase between the killer and an unsuspecting young couple with the misfortune of stealing a car with the body to be hidden in the trunk.  The couple is a modern horror staple of the innocent virgin and the sexed up, grimly boyfriend.

From there the film dips even more into the sleaze and suspense.  Unconventional all the way through, this was an unexpected treat.
