I've only seen this movie one other time before tonight. Sometime in the last couple years.
I remember enjoying it.
That much is true.
We definitely have left the 80s and have entered the 90s. Just has that sort of feel to it.
I decided to watch and review all of the Return of the Living Dead movies a while ago, and only have 2 more on the list. Though I have heard a brand new one is also coming out soon.
I love the absurdity and ridiculousness of these movies.
This one seems a bit more serious than the previous 2, but still pretty insane.
I miss my man Thom Matthews.
And the soundtrack doesn't compare to the other…
Great movie with probably the most beautiful and erotic female zombie ever!
Brian Yuzna almost completely dispenses of humor which was an important part of the previous movies. Instead, there is more gore crossed with a tragic Romeo and Juliet story, which I consider as an innovative move.
She’s a 10, but she’s a reanimated experimental zombie punk with chunks of glass sticking out of her face and metal coming out of her skin.
This opens with some credits that give off strong 90’s DTV vibes so the whole nostalgia factor is pretty high for me. I actually think I like this a bit more now than I did back in 1993. The body horror and gore are pretty delightful, but the whole love story melodrama aspect seems so very out of place.
Still, Yuzna delivers some beautifully gross scenes and it’s such a kick seeing The OC’s Julie Cooper-Nichols giving herself a couple of lip and tit piercings, amiright?
let go of me let me go
why are you doing this to me why are you doing this to me
i don't know what's happening to me
i'm not alive i'm not dead
i'm just, god,
i'm just so lonely
<3 <3 <3
when the boys asked her sybil, sybil, what do you want?
she answered, i want to die
<3 <3 <3
i can't stand being like this
Brian Yuzna switches it up with his entry into the Return of the Living Dead franchise, adding a romantic twist into the Living Dead equation lightening up on the comedy satire of the first two films. This is my second favorite in the series and the recent Vestron Blu-ray looks pretty nice, especially since the last time I watched this was in 2002/2003 on VHS.
"Where are we?"
"Where we belong."
Teenager Curt Reynolds (J. Trevor Edmond) and his girlfriend, Julie Walker (Melinda Clarke), steal the security card of Curt's father, Colonel John Reynolds (Kent McCord), and enter the top secret military base where the Colonel works. There, they witness an experiment with Trioxin gas, turning a deceased body into a Zombie. When Julie dies in an accident, Curt becomes determined to bring her back ...
Return of the Living Dead III is a romantic horror film directed by Brian Yuzna. It's the 3rd installment in the Return of the Living Deadfilm series, a sequel to Return of the Living Dead Part II (my review).
After the predecessor had (strangely) a more kid-friendly approach, with…
The third part of the Return of the Living Dead series dispenses with the comedy of the previous two entries in favour of a full on zombie horror tragic love story. We focus on the son of a military commander who witnesses the army's experiments with the dead right before his kinky girlfriend dies in a motorcycle accident. Naturally, he brings her back to life but this decision comes with devastating results. Director Brian Yuzna really plays to his strengths with this sequel. Plenty of bloody and gruesome gore, hints of Lovecraftian influence and behind it all a touching love story. Mindy Clark delivers an exceptional performance as the afflicted victim brought back to life without consent and forced to…
Barry Goldberg's score feels just like the film. It's Yuzna-vision which has the most demented charm. It's a mad, macabre world. My life with my thril kill zombie girlfriend. ROTLD3 is pretty god-damned goth and rebel yell. There's a weirdo analysis on the toxic relationship, here. Bad girls getting decent guys in trouble. We've all been there. It works in reverse, as well. Frankenstein girls will seem strangely sexy, no?
The SFX rock the fucking Casbah and when Yuzna is firing on all cylinders like he is here, there's a case to be made that he was in the same league as Peter Jackson for a bit. This is 1500 times better than part 2. It's moments like these that…
therapist (imaginary): are you romanticizing emotionally unavailable living dead girls again?
me: yes, yes I am.
Ugh 😩 …
Excuse me while I check my pulse and body temperature to confirm IM NOT ALREADY DEAD the way I craaaaave TOXIC 2-4-5 trioxin based relationships like this.
Julie, love may be 💀 but you made it 🥵 again.
