It’s telling the Cozzi explains in an interview on the Severin Blu Ray that the Poster and a 4 page treatment were what were produced first, before any script or financing were secured. The poster makes promises that the film struggles to deliver, but this is still unabashed fun without any pretense of being more than it is.
Ultra low budget, campy, a little gory and deliciously absurd. And Donald Pleasance as the devil with one of the most hilarious line readings ever - “Fly away little demons, fly away!!” As he throws money off the roof of a building.
The music is terrific and the song is so catchy. The cast is game, and when Cozzi explained that they did there own dubbing, it explained a lot. Daria Nicolodi is a welcome presence as well. The deleted scenes suggest a more cosmic theme that was almost entirely absent from the finished film. I doubt the budget allowed for a real exploration of that idea, so these scenes/shots were probably wisely excised.
Don’t go in expecting much and you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
