Yes! Another dose of whatthefuckery, Asian style.   This one raises the top in “over the top” to the stratosphere and keeps on going.  So many beyond crazy gore  set pieces I don’t even know where to start to give examples.  The central conceit, that a rogue tumor give “engineers” the ability to grow weapons at the site of wounds is fertile ground for the wildest body mod fantasies.  A phallus gun, a lower half crocodile jaw, a fist chainsaw and on and on.

Coupled with this worlds’ affinity for body mods and there isn’t a “normal” human to be found in this nearly two hour splatter fest, so the quicker you submit to it’s insanity the more fun there is to be had.

Eihi Shinna (Audition) stars here as the cop and engineer hunter Ruka.  She seems  to be channeling her best Meiko Kaji in Female Prisoner Scorpion poses and stares throughout, and it’s quite effective.  Shinna though, has an inherent almost fetishistic sexiness that leaps off the screen and her police outfit and leggy walk become iconic.

Really though, this is just one very very extended splatter fest.  Every wound literally sprays blood as if arteries were turned into pressure hoses.  Indelible images abound, including the amputee with samurai blades as appendages and the plot is serviceable, but at nearly two hours, by the last 20-30 minutes it was a hazy blur of blood soaked mayhem.

I wish Shinna had gotten more lead roles in exploitation fare.  She is an incredibly charismatic screen presence.
