Let’s face it, Hulu’s Into The Dark series from Blumhouse is a mixed bag at best and, frankly, I punched out of watching them every month last year.  That said, one of the best entries from the first year was Nacho Vigalando’s  delightful Christmas entry Pooka!.

So of course they made a sequel, this time focusing on cancel culture and creepypasta to lackluster effect.  The cast is winning and charming - particularly the lead Malcolm Barrett who is probably familiar to fans of TVs Timeless and Preacher - but the movie itself suffers from “TV movie” syndrome through and through.  Like many of the Into The Dark entries, it is filmed in a flat, unimaginative way with basic editing and narrative structure.   Plus, while some of the action is fun, and the ideas are interesting, the movie itself is just boring and not very good.

I did appreciate the ending didn’t fully resolve things and left the core characters about to face another challenge.  While this was likely to leave room for yet another sequel, it at least was a novel idea executed well in a movie that was largely bereft of anything uniquely entertaining.
