Hallowed ground is a 2000s slasher/cult movie that wastes no time. In the first couple of minutes the exposition is dropped and minutes after the killer scarecrow arrives. I liked the movie.
Jaime Alexander does a pretty good job as the final girl. The slasher/cult leader was interesting enough but nothing special. The kills were fine. I liked the cult twist and how Jaime Alexander character fights back is pretty cool. The effects were not great but fine.
Hallowed ground won't pull any surprises but if your looking for a old farmailiar slasher with a cult twist its a good time.
Want a killer scarecrow flick? Not so fast, townsfolk seek rebirth of a zealot preacher through a child. His spirit body-jumps into a strawman and stalks the perfect vessel in Jaimie Alexander suffering car trouble. At least until she's kidnapped, baby Chloë Grace Moretz becomes the community's target, and the two fight against forced insemination.
Hallowed Ground could've belonged to the Children of the Corn series. Similar and just as alright yet bland. Silly logic abounds, like Alexander driving to a police station in a dead cop's patrol car. The sheriff immediately believes claims of a scarecrow attack, leaves to investigate, and tells her to stay with a rack of unlocked shotguns. Yep, that's proper procedure. Sable Ranch, better known as Firefly Ranch in Devil's Rejects (2005), appears briefly. Watched via Genius Entertainment's DVD.

It was alright. Father's preaching got nuttier and nuttier. You'd have to be getting dosed up on rotten corn to hero worship him.
Haha very ironic his spirit comes back into a scarecrow. Pfft get it right up you father.
It goes around the empty houses, with the spirits, days of reckoning, pitchforks, all I can say is thank goodness for the crows.

Little town of Hope is under the influence of a charismatic (and dead) preacher. Liz is just driving through town when her car breaks down, unlucky for her. Because apparently her arrival was foretold and the dead preacher needs to use her womb to return back to life.

Hallowed Ground could be part of the Children of the Corn franchise. Just throw it between any of the existing films, it will fit, doesn't matter where.
So the opening isn't actually that bad and the rest of the movie, although not spectacular, isn't the worst thing I've seen (I enjoyed it quite a bit). I really enjoyed this little cult movie. I can't believe it got a low rating, it's pretty entertaining and effective movie, and actually scared me as a kid. It kinda reminded me of Children of the Corn, but with low budgets. I loved the low quality, the crappy CGIs and little Chloë Grace Moretz was the cutest.
It's not the most original horror movie, but it's just short movie and was really fun to watch.
Decent if unspectacular supernatural / slasher horror film that will have you thinking of films such as Scarecrows and Children of the Corn, except here it's the towns people who are the villains rather than the kids.
Reasonable production values, good locations and a better cast than you normally get in this sort of thing (Jaimie Alexander, Nick Chinlund, Xena's Hudson (Calisto) Leick and Chloe Grace Moretz) make it a decent time waster.
If like me you are a sucker for these sort of American folk horrors then Hallowed Ground may well be worth watching. I think this was my fourth viewing of the movie.
This one was a blind buy, but the names of Jaimie Alexander and Chloe Grace Moretz won me over and at a £1 it's not like it would break the bank. So it's safe to say I wasn't expecting much.
I do like a scarecrow/corn field based horror film, there's something naturally eerie about the surrounding. 'Hallowed Ground' isn't anything ground breaking when it comes to the genre and it does borrow from a number of other similar films. It's a strange mix of 'Children of the Corn' and 'Rosemary's Baby', it doesn't reach the highs of ether of those nor does it commit to what it wants to be.

This wasn't that bad. Besides the paper thin characters and ridiculous twists, they did give me some fun scarecrow kills.
I'll always rate a scarecrow flick a notch higher than most people.
