This is so real if I died in high school I would also relentlessly haunt my best friend that I had an intense homoerotic relationship with
School girls. Ballet. Jealousy. Urban legends. Ghosts. Vengeance.
Literally my aesthetic.
Sorta like a Korean Black Swan except with way more catty mean girls and a comical fat suit.
"Why am I, Albrecht? I'm Giselle."
The third unrelated high school horror film under the banner Whispering Corridors occupies that sweet spot between Black Swan and Perfect Blue. Competition in the ballet department of an all-girl art school sees friendships take toxic twists, with desperation leading students down the steep path of a local urban legend that can fulfill dreams - the titular Wishing Stairs. Korean girls high school horror. Walk up the stairs and if a 29th step appears, you can make a wish. Jin-seong and So-hee are boarding school besties, both trying to excel in their ballet class for a shot at entering a world-renowned arts academy.
Another one I hadn't seen in over 10 years and wanted to revisit after it was re-released in high definition.

The daily horrors of stress, determination and how being the absolute best at that age can mean everything. That stuff had me hooked. Plus a lot more…
“Wishing stairs, please grant my wish.”
Much prefer the aesthetic of the 00’s horror coming out of Asia than the US. Carried this film much further than the story could have alone. A little tame? I don’t know why I expected multiple concurrent stories and snowballing bedlam. Instead this focused on just two which joined together and cruised to the finish line. Like we got a long middle instead of a climactic end.
