Like actually. How did he go from this, to a masterpiece one year later.

ALSO, wtf is this poster. Did the person who designed it not even watch the movie?? Not only does baseball have almost nothing to do with it, but these two characters barely interact the entire film.
M. Night. I will always appreciate you, but this bored me to death. A strange combination of bland and truly strange choices. As others have already stated (not an original thought), this is one of the more ironic film titles.
Watched for my upcoming M. Night Shyamalan podcast. NOBODY TOLD ME THIS HAS A TWIST ENDING. I AM NOT KIDDING.

Action!: The Campy, The Violent and The Plot Twist — Its a Plot Twist! The Shyamalan Chronicles
From the title and the poster, one could be fooled into thinking that this film has something to do with sports and that Rosie has a starring role, but none of this is true. We instead get an almost existentialist coming-of-age narrative about a child who is grieving after the loss of his beloved grandpa, something that will cause him to question this beloved figure and God among other things.
M Night Shyamalan would explore and flesh out these themes much better in his following feature films, The Sixth Sense and Signs, however he does a reasonably good job playing with them here,…
I don't really have much to say about this movie but I've had a great time going through Shyamalan's filmography this past week and you can absolutely consider me a fan of this man now. He gets a bad rap because of a few certified stinkers but to call him a bad filmmaker is just unfair. Think what you will of his films but he loves cinema and continues to create original stories which we so desperately need in this age of sequels and IP. That being said, what's your favorite M. Night movie?!
Rosie O’Donnell as a nun. The 90’s really had a sense of humour we lack today. M. Night Shyamalan delivers one touching and heartfelt comedy and doesn’t forget a signature yet wholesome twist either.
Do you remember when Guillermo del Toro got kicked off his film Mimic by the Weinstein’s, and the wider movie culture collectively put their arms around him, gave him a big hug, and poured out tons of sympathy and understanding for an artist that had been unfairly treated by the cruelties of a corrupt studio system, leading to an accumulation of good will and good faith that continues to this day?
Well, Shyamalan got it even worse, and literally nobody cares.
At age 21, Shyamalan wrote, produced and directed the film Praying with Anger. An atmospheric art film set in India, which played at a small handful of international festivals, and is now only available in poor quality VHS rips…
The least Shyamalan film that Shyamalan has ever Shyamalan’d. It’s so adorable and cute, just a kid trying to find God and through life’s hardships. All the young actors and actresses were amazing. Such a wholesome experience.

This is definitely a film made for children—most of it is maudlin and cutesy, to say nothing of the twist—but anytime it slows down to seriously discuss matters of faith and existence, it's pretty interesting to see Shyamalan's perspective filtered through that POV. With Rosie O'Donnell still in HARRIET THE SPY mode and the movie's extreme SIMON BIRCH energy, I probably would've loved it as a kid if the Baptists I was surrounded by didn't hate Catholics for no reason.
You know, at least ‘The Happening’ and ‘Lady in the Water’ were funny.
So many M. Night films have grown on me over time. Wide Awake did not.
