you know what's scarier than this? dealing with an abusive husband who also joked about m*rdering you and r*ping your corpse (like one does) and no matter how much evidence you provide people will still hate you to the point of being wildly misogynistic and calling you a succubus with a "demonic fanged vagina" (?) - and it'll be the most popular review! absolutely surreal
“c’mon, it’s our last night. to you and me.”
trade the idyllic French countryside for the Argentinian greenery, British actresses for American actresses — but retain the language barrier element (despite both Amber Heard and Odette Annable are fluent in Spanish), add a dark approach to the plot, and a cinematic look to the visuals and yes, Marcos Efron’s And Soon the Darkness is the remake of Robert Fuest’s film (of the same title), which was released 40 years earlier, in 1970.
“everything was going so great until now.”
look, the thrill is there, the friendship dynamic felt genuine, and i really like the ACAB message, but honestly, like most remakes, this wasn’t any good. i only decided to give…
Should have stayed in darkness.
Felt like I was losing brain cells due how stupid the two women in this acted. I don't need to ask if a man wrote and directed this.
The only thing preventing this from getting the rating it deserves is the number of times Karl Urban put on and removed sunglasses. 😮💨😭
"You know what.... SCREW YOU!" -Ellie,
No.
I don't have the energy to go into how problematic the gender elements of this film are but I'll simply say that if you know a guy who REALLY likes this film you should probably avoid them.
Again... no.
I'm sorry, but these are probably the most obviously packaged casting decisions since After the Sunset. Like I'm not saying Odette Annable is Salma Hayek or that Amber Heard is Naomie Harris, but Marcos Efron couldn't be much more obvious. I mean maybe if we got 73 more shots of hip bones shifting underneath bikini bottoms, we could be more obvious, but that's a big IF.
This isn't very good. The female leads are pretty bad. Karl Urban is collecting a paycheck. No one else is worth mentioning.
I'd read this wasn't great, but it still slightly disappointed.

Film 145: And Soon the Darkness
Rank: 29 of 145
A pleasant surprise.
,,And Soon the Darkness’’ is an entertaining and well made horror thriller with mystery elements. There is not one boring or wasted moment in this film.
I really liked the cast. Amber Heard is fantastic as the lead and all of the supporting cast members were doing a good job, too. I’m a fan of Karl Urban since ,,The Boys’’ and always love to see him in films. Michel Noher reminded me a lot of David Hess.
The locations and nature shots were great and some were even fitting to the films tone perfectly. Score and soundtrack are nothing special but solid. …
Moral of the Story: When somebody is playing the Macarena on the jukebox, let it run. No good will come of changing it to the Divinyls.
Xenophobic sexist garbage...and lacks even the shallow self awareness of something like Hostel. This is a movie that wants you to admit that the shit men are trying to do to you right now, the rights they are constantly plotting to strip from you, is at least sanitized and civilized: 'I mean let's face it girls: doing your jesus given duty in having severe pain, a higher instance of cervical cancer, a baby you don't want or can't afford, is definitely better than forced prostitution at the hands of worse/other misogynistic cultures. Just admit forced prostitution is worse! Good. That's a good girl.'
I saw this scare tactic over and over again in 2016 and it sickens me that they…
The remake isnt as good as the original. It loses the atmosphere and alot of the tension of the original. The remake moves the setting to Argentina and the setting looks pretty but I did like the closeness French countryside in the original more. The cast do a good job and the characters are interesting to follow. I also like the third act the tension is pretty good. In the End the remake of and soon the darkness is fine and has its moments that it does shine but just isn't as good as the original.
An absolutely and irredeemably tedious as fuck mystery thriller where everyone acts like an abysmally dumb shit. There's a great inherent tension in losing someone in a foreign country and the panicky search for them, but this film isn't good enough to mine it effectively because it's shit. I don't know why it's irked me but we shouldn't have seen Odette Yustman's character again after Amber Heard left her until she reappears in the narrative later on, showing her getting kidnapped somehow made everything far less tense than it already was. There's a huge down note moment late in the film that it doesn't earn at all and makes the whole thing even less watchable. Right after it there's an…
